Koutsimo
Lactate Lab
A field testing analysis tool for coaches and athletes. A lactate meter and a heart rate monitor are all you need. You get thresholds, training zones and a finished report, and you see progress from one test to the next. Report €12.
Made for the field
You run the test on a track or treadmill with your own lactate meter and heart rate monitor. No laboratory or gas analysis is needed. Lactate Lab turns the measurements into an analysis that would take a long time to write by hand.
For coaches
Test your runners in the field, make the feedback your own and give the athlete a polished report.
For athletes
Run the test with a ready-made protocol and see your thresholds, your training zones and what to develop next.
How it works
Buy a code
You pay through Stripe, and the code arrives in your email. No account is needed.
Enter the code and the test
The link in the email opens the analysis page with your code ready. Choose the runner profile and record pace, heart rate and lactate.
Get the analysis
See the thresholds with their ranges, training zones, a quality grade and warnings about unusual measurements.
Save and send the PDF
Edit the development focus and example sessions to make them your own, save the report as a PDF and send it to the athlete.
See where progress happened
One test shows where you are. Two tests show whether the training works. Every report has a comparison link: open it before the next test, and the new report shows the change in thresholds and in lactate and heart rate at the same paces. You don’t need to enter the old test again, and nothing is stored on the server.
What the report includes
Thresholds and ranges
LT1 and LT2 as pace, heart rate and lactate. You also see how the methods differ and can choose one of them.
Training zones
Paces and heart rates for easy, threshold and maximal endurance.
What to develop and how
A main focus based on the profile, with example sessions and paces. The tester can edit all the text.
Comparison with the previous test
The change in threshold paces and the previous test’s curve on the same chart.
VO₂max
A rough estimate from the peak speed of the test, or a measured value if you have one. An estimate is always marked as one.
Your tests stay with you
The calculation runs on the server, but your test is not stored there.
View an example
The examples are ready-filled tests where you can see the full report and the comparison with a previous test.
Prices
The code arrives by email right after payment, and you can use it once the test is done. Prices include VAT.
One report, €12
Analysis and report for one test.
Three reports, €28
For follow-up or several runners.
Built on research
Thresholds are calculated with published methods, and the recommendation is their median. The range comes from simulating measurement error. If a threshold cannot be determined, the report says so and explains why.
A quality grade from A to D shows how well the test went and how well the measurements support determining the thresholds. The scoring is Koutsimo’s own. Lactate Lab is a coaching tool. It does not replace a laboratory test with gas analysis and is not a health assessment.
What do the thresholds mean?
Our guide explains in plain language what the thresholds tell you and how the test is done. Read how to interpret a lactate test.
Common questions
What do I need for the test?
A lactate meter, a heart rate monitor and a track or treadmill where the pace is under control. Lactate Lab analyses a test that has already been measured. Without a meter you can do a level test with Koutsimo.
Which test should I do?
On a track, the ready-made options are 800- and 1200-metre stages. On a treadmill we recommend 4-minute stages, and you can also choose 3 or 6 minutes. Between stages you only take the sample and heart rate, in about 30–60 seconds. Your own protocol works too, but comparisons are then less certain.
How do I send the report?
Save the report as a PDF and send it to the athlete by email or message.
How do I compare with an old test?
Open the link in the previous report’s PDF. The test loads for comparison, and the new report shows where progress has happened.
